Engrave personal property such as cameras, stereos, calculators, computers and other valuables.
Engravers will be provided by the Department of Safety and Security upon request. Engravers can be acquired by going to the Department of Safety and Security located at 5 Rope Ferry. Assistance will be available if students need it. A twenty-four-hour borrowing limit is requested so the engravers are available for others.
Dartmouth College has 74 "Code Blue" emergency telephones with direct contact to Safety and Security. These telephones can be used to report a criminal incidence, fire, illness, suspicious person or any other type of emergency. They are located across campus and can be identified by the emergency label vertically printed and a blue strobe light atop their structure. Simply pressing the button directly connects the caller with Safety and Security's dispatch center while also notifying the dispatcher of the caller's location.
Walking and tours of the campus to review exterior lighting are conducted twice each year by a safety committee composed of students and representatives from Residential Life, Facilities Operations and Management, the Dean of the College office and Safety and Security. Recommendations for improvements are submitted to the appropriate offices for action. The college also routinely surveys shrubbery and trees to ensure clear, unobstructed visibility for students, employees, and guests who walk from building to building.
View upcoming training sessions. Additionally, departments and divisions may request on site sessions for their staff on these topics, as well as additional training offerings listed below.
In conjunction with the Office of Residential Life, the Department of Safety and Security coordinates cluster events and presentations that encourage students to follow good safety practices.
The presentations include proactive meetings with the Dartmouth community on various topics of concern, including the relationship between the community and the Safety office, and services the Safety Department provides. Crime prevention materials are distributed at these presentations, and delivered to key locations on campus to assist in the education of the community on pertinent issues. Special training programs are set up for the student staff in residential halls and affinity housing.
